School Safety

A Safer School

Introducing Evolv Express at Antioch High School

We understand that this has been an incredibly difficult time for our Antioch High School community. Our hearts are with all of you as we process last week’s tragic events together. Please know that your safety and well-being remain our top priorities.

As part of our ongoing efforts to create a safe and supportive environment, we’re introducing a new safety measure: the Evolv Express weapons detection system. This pilot program will help us evaluate how advanced security technology can make our school a safer place for everyone.

What is Evolv Express?

The Evolv Express system is a new way to enhance safety at Antioch High School. It uses advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to detect potential threats while allowing students and staff to enter the building quickly and easily. Unlike traditional metal detectors, this system doesn’t require you to remove all metal items, however, we will ask that certain items are taken out of backpacks, such as laptops, to reduce the number of students who will need additional screenings.

This technology is already trusted by major venues, including sports stadiums, concert halls, and museums, and is now being used in hundreds of schools across the country to protect students and staf.

What to Expect When You Arrive

  1. Walk through naturally: You’ll pass through the system just like walking into the building. Students can walk through the detectors with their backpacks, but we will ask that they take out laptops and other items that might result in a false positive.
  2. If an alert happens: If an item is flagged, school staff will conduct a quick check. The system highlights the specific area of concern, making this process faster and more focused.
  3. Be patient with adjustments: This is a new process for everyone, and we’ll work together to make sure it’s as smooth as possible.

Why We’re Doing This

We know the recent events have raised concerns about safety. That’s why we’re taking steps to address those concerns while supporting our school community in healing and moving forward. The Evolv Express system is one of several measures we’re implementing to enhance security and give everyone greater peace of mind.

Antioch High School is piloting this system thanks to the generous support of Systems Integrations and Evolv, who have temporarily loaned the equipment to us. This allows us to evaluate its effectiveness and explore options for expanding its use across more schools in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Evolv Express system?

Evolv Express is an advanced screening system designed to detect potential weapons while allowing for a smooth, fast entry. It focuses on distinguishing everyday items, like phones and keys, from potential threats.

How does it work?

The system uses low-frequency radio waves and artificial intelligence to scan for threats. If an item is flagged, school staff will conduct a quick secondary check. This ensures safety without creating long lines or delays.

Is the Evolv system safe?

Yes, Evolv Express meets all national and international safety standards, including those set by the IEEE, the ADA, and other regulatory bodies. The system uses technology similar to anti-theft devices in stores and has been thoroughly tested for safety.

What if I have a medical device?

If you have an implanted or wearable medical device, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor or the device manufacturer. If you prefer not to go through the Evolv system, alternative screening methods will be available—just let a staff member know.

What can families and students do to help?
  • Bring only essential items to school.
  • Talk to your child about what they’re carrying in their bag or pockets to minimize unnecessary items.
  • Be patient as we all get used to this new system.

We’re Here for You
